Many Survey companies, architects and building surveyors have invested in a Leica DISTO™ distance meter and AutoCAD. They will visit site with graph paper and sketch out the internal walls of the building before physically measuring the dimensions. They then take the information back to the office and effectively redraw the survey in AutoCAD.

At Sigma Surveys we have a very different approach.

We have invested in a bespoke measured building software application called MBS Software. We initially survey the footprint and window openings and like a jigsaw puzzle work from the outside in. Each room is positioned from the centerline of a particular window opening. We, like other surveyors, use a Leica DISTO™ but have invested in a particular model with inbuilt Bluetooth technology enabling the surveyors to capture the data in real time. By transferring each measurement directly into a tablet PC with MBS building software installed, we can draw the building (like an advanced ‘Etch-A-Sketch’) and be sure that no mismeasurements have been taken prior to leaving site. Productivity is increased as the surveyor effectively draws the building on site and exports directly into AutoCAD before delivering to the client.
